Toomey's statement on his support for DeVos:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement regarding the vote to confirm Betsy DeVos as the Secretary of Education:

"I am pleased to vote to confirm Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. Betsy DeVos has spent nearly three decades of her life, tens of millions of dollars, and considerable personal energy toward one noble goal: ensuring that poor children trapped in failing schools have the same opportunities that wealthy and middle class kids already have.

I guess all the people swamping his offices for Tuesdays with Toomey are just a figment of his deranged imagination.

He avoids his constituents at every opportunity. No calls, no in person interaction, no emails.

Lying coward.

He says that her "noble goal is: ensuring that poor children trapped in failing schools have the same opportunities that wealthy and middle class kids already have."

OK, fine, that is indeed a noble goal.

Shouldn't the FIRST thing one would do would be to FIX THE "FAILING SCHOOL!"
If there's a "problem" with a "failing school," fix it and keep things going - don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

And the idea about "economic disparity" - really, you think there's a problem with rich communities having a better chance of "better scores" than the others? DUH!!!!

Hey, TOOMEY (and the rest of you Pugs!) - if you think there's a problem with a school - FIX IT - in a way that keeps the money THERE and NOT into the pockets of your corporate "consultants" - you know, the publishers of texts, tests, and "test training" programs!

Just for once, think about the KIDS and not lining your own pockets!

I absolutely hate that this jerk got re-elected. He's a coward.

I called his office every damn day asking him not to vote for DeVos, and I know tons of other constituents of his who did the same, so he is completely full of crap on that one. Most of the time you couldn't get through to any of his numbers.

I never did get through, so I sent emails and postcards. Those were in-state postmarks.

And we could/should have had McGinty. Infuriating!
