Gettysburg man trashed Pennsylvania Capitol after fight with his girlfriend
HARRISBURG The Gettysburg man who caused possibly tens of thousands of dollars of damage during a vandalism spree in the Capitol early Sunday {February 11} was drunk and snuck in the building after a fight with his girlfriend, officials said today {February 13}.
But why Ryan Stump targeted the domed statehouse and decided to spray a fire extinguisher on walls covered with portraits of past Senate presidents remained an unanswered question, police said.
"Somehow he ended up in a fight and he ended up here," Capitol Police Deputy Superintendent Kevin Brown said Monday.
Mr. Stump, 27, had come to Harrisburg with his girlfriend last weekend.
He entered the statehouse through a first-floor window just before 2 a.m. Sunday and roamed for about 10 minutes before police caught him after a brief foot chase, police said. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, vandalism, public drunkenness and other crimes.
