Hearing postponed for owner of collapsed Washington, Pa., apartment building

A hearing for the owner of a Washington, Pa., building that collapsed July 12 was postponed a month.

Mark Russo, 42, who faces several citations related to the collapse at 15 N. Main St., was scheduled to have a summary trial before District Judge Robert Redlinger Tuesday afternoon.

But Steve Toprani, city of Washington solicitor, and Elizabeth Tarasi, Mr. Russo’s attorney, agreed to postpone the trial until city officials and insurance companies can complete their investigations into the collapse.

District Judge Redlinger allowed the continuance and rescheduled the trial for Aug. 24.

Leaving the courtroom, Mr. Russo declined comment other than to say he was not a slum lord. Ron McIntyre, Washington’s code enforcement officer, accused Mr. Russo earlier this month of being a “slum lord” who has not made necessary repairs to numerous properties he owns in the city.
