GOP Pittsburgh Lawyer Laura Ellsworth announces run for governor

Republican attorney Laura Ellsworth has entered the 2018 race for governor.

Ms. Ellsworth, 59, is a partner who runs the Pittsburgh office of the international law firm Jones Day. She also has led the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, Youth Policy Council, Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, and United Way Women's Leadership Council.

Based on her online ad video emailed to media Tuesday, Ms. Ellsworth said she would focus on solutions to Pennsylvania’s problems and communicate those solutions to voters if elected in November 2018. The governor’s number one job, she said, is to focus on job creation. She also would champion school choice and not treat citizens as if they were dunces.

“I’m running for governor of Pennsylvania because I’m tired of politicians treating us like we are stupid,” Ms. Ellsworth said in the video. “For too long, too many politicians like our governor have fallen in love with their own voices and confused process with actual progress. We’ve all heard enough talk – it’s time for action.”

How ironically ironic.

GOP doesn't have a shot if the voters are not treated as if they are really stupid.

Jones Day partner Don McGahn, who was previously a member of the Federal Election Commission, served as counsel for the 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign and was later nominated to serve as Trump's White House Counsel. At least 14 Jones Day attorneys have been appointed to work for the Trump administration as of March 2017.

I don't personally know Laura Ellsworth and I'm registered to vote Democratic. But I think any Trump supporter will have a tough time here in Allegheny County or western PA. I could be wrong but it seems that the GOP has lost a lot of ground since last year.

Don't forget that we had that horrible Toomey-McGinty Senate race fiasco only a year ago, and many Dems are suspicious that Russian hacking is the reason why Toomey "won". Who knows if that will ever be proven? But it was amazing and shocking how much outside money was spent on that race for one seat in the Senate.

The main reason for my post is to say that our current governor Tom Wolf (Dem.) is doing a great job and he's working hard for our state. He should win re-election on the basis of his record, and on his ability to work with the Republican-controlled legislature. If Ms. Ellsworth thinks she might win because last year's Trump voters will automatically support her, she might as well not even bother to run.
