Men from Providence and Coventry charged in theft of $90K worth of baby diapers
PROVIDENCE State police arrested two Rhode Island men Thursday and charged them as conspirators in the theft of $90,000 worth of Pampers baby diapers, authorities said.
The two men, who police say conspired with a third suspect, were arrested after state police detectives raided a Providence storefront on Smith Street and recovered 800 boxes of diapers, which were among 2,000 diaper boxes that the conspirators diverted from delivery, according to a news release issued by Detective Maj. Dennis Fleming.
Aubrey Bettis, 59, had been hired to drive a truckload of diapers from Pennsylvania to Amazon's Fall River distribution facility on Feb. 9, according to Fleming.
But after Bettis drove into Rhode Island, he sold the diapers, Fleming said.
