North Providence mayor suspends police chief
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Acting Police Chief Christopher Pelagio has been suspended with pay.
Mayor Charles Lombardi confirmed Saturday afternoon that Pelagio has been suspended from the job “until further notice.”
“That’s all I can say at this time,” Lombardi said. “He’s protected by the policemen’s bill of rights so I’ve been advised not to say anything.”
Pelagio, who became chief in 2015, is paid $105,000 annually, plus overtime as he is still a member of the union.
Acting Deputy Chief Charles Davey will fill Pelagio’s role at this time, Lombardi said.
