Raimondo: Democrats shouldn't pursue impeachment
Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo on Wednesday warned Washington Democrats against trying to impeach President Donald Trump even as fellow Rhode Island Democrat, U.S. Rep. David Cicilline is making the case in Washington to go down that road.
“We have to beat this guy at the ballot box,” Raimondo told WGBH’s Boston Public Radio. “The way to beat him is at the ballot box. If our entire message is ‘Trump is bad,’ we have real problems.”
For “millions of Americans, if you go down this route it will feel illegitimate in some way,” she added.
Raimondo acknowledged that the impeachment question was “a tough call” but said she trusted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who so far has not started impeachment proceedings, to make the right decision.
