Gloria Bromell Tinubu, 2018 candidate for lieutenant governor, announces bid to replace Lindsey Grah

Gloria Bromell Tinubu, a two-time U.S. House candidate who ran for lieutenant governor of South Carolina last year, has announced a 2020 bid to replace Sen. Lindsey Graham.

The 66-year-old Democrat from Georgetown was Phil Noble's running mate in last year's Democratic primary for governor. Noble, a Charleston businessman, came in third behind Florence attorney Marguerite Willis and state Rep. James Smith, who lost to Gov. Henry McMaster in November.

Tinubu formally announced her candidacy at a S.C. Democratic Legislative Women's Caucus event on Wed. May 1. In a statement released the same day, she spoke about improving economic inequality.

"Our country is at a pivotal crossroads in its history and the choice is not between capitalism and socialism, the choice is between free market capitalism and monopoly capitalism," she said. "Monopoly capitalism, with its associated concentration of economic power, is the root cause of much of the country's economic, social, and environmental problems."
