4 dead in apparent murder-suicide near Irmo

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A husband, wife and their two young children are dead following an apparent murder-suicide near Irmo, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The four were found Wednesday morning after police were called around 10:30 to the home at 1 Forest Walk Court in the Riverwalk neighborhood off Broad River Road.

The children were discovered in their individual bedrooms, and the two adults were found together in their bedroom, said Sgt. Curtis Wilson, spokesman for Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Each of the four was shot in the upper body, he said.

A handgun was found near the adult male, Wilson said. The sheriff’s department’s initial assessment is that the incident was a domestic situation. Wilson said authorities would investigate whether any previous domestic violence calls had been made to the house.

Too bad the children didn't have guns of their own to protect them.

Guns are good at solving so many problems. Quick, easy & painful.

While I certainly don't know the circumstances in this incident it's just becoming eerie.

Back in the 60's, when I was in High School, we read the "Grapes of Wrath". As part of my report on the book I interviewed my Grandmother who of course had lived through the Great Depression.

She related at the time how she had worked in town for the priests at the Catholic Church. Farmers and "townies" seemed to be committing suicide on a weekly basis, and taking whole families with them.

She remembered the priests trying mightily to get the causes of death classified as accidental because the Church at the time considered suicide a mortal sin and would keep you from Heaven, but the times were so tough that they were giving people a pass as it where.

I see it coming back and more people saying fuck it, not worth trying anymore.

In Newberry a man shot and killed his estranged wife. They had been married for 50 years. He was found in PA. But died from heart failure after his arrest.

Over the weekend a Winnsboro man shot his girlfriend, then himself. The girlfriend survived, he died.

This is the 3rd murder suicide recently.
