Related: About this forumBlack gay Republican running for TX House on pro-life, gun-rights platform
AUSTIN--In our story last week on out state House candidates, gay Republican Michael Cargill wasnt mentioned.
Cargill, whos running in the special election Nov. 5 to fill Mark Stramas (D) unexpired term, has been a business owner for 10 years. He currently owns Central Texas Gun Works in Austin.
Hes the only Republican whos filed to run in the special election, and will be up against lesbian Democrat Celia Israel, among others. If he doesnt win in November, he plans to run again in the Republican Primary and to seek the Victory Funds endorsement.
A vocal gun rights activist, Cargill said upholding the Second Amendment, along with being pro-life and his belief that retiring military should get better mental health treatment, made him pursue public office. He said he focuses on women and the LGBT community when he teaches concealed handgun classes.

A black, gay Republican in Texas? Someone should check to see if he is named on the Endangered Species List.
The article also states that he benefits from being on his longtime partners health insurance plan.
I'd put the odds of winning the special election at <2% only because the Democratic votes will be split. If he doesn't win office, his chance of winning the Republican primary in 2014 are zero.

(17,291 posts)1. This creep ran in the the last election cycle as a Democrat
The race was for constable or JP, I forget which. Of course, he didn't win the primary, so he then went on to sue the Democratic Party and the County because. . . because he's crazy. And a creep and a jerk and a scumbag.
The fact that thus far an anvil has never fallen from the sky and landed on Michael Cargill's head is the best argument against the idea that the Universe is guided by a just and merciful God that I can think of.
