Obamacare, immigration hot topics in Neugebauer's town hall meeting

U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer’s little red wagon is getting too crowded.

The Lubbock Republican presented the toy buggy at a town hall meeting Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14, to make an analogy about the nation’s providers and takers. Too many freeloaders are filling the wagon, he said, creating a heavy burden for the taxpayers forced to carry them forward.

“There’s a divide in our country between the people who over the years we’ve allowed in the wagon and the people pulling the wagon,” he told a crowd of about 225 people in the Science Spectrum, 2579 S. Loop 289.

The congressman continued that crowding the wagon is not only unfair to its carriers, but can actually hinder those riding in it.

Neugebauer also made the false claim that Social Security is going bankrupt and commented about the farm bill.

There were also some valid points raised by the liberals commenting in response to the article that are worth reviewing.

DoD: 5,000 Military Families Losing Food Stamps

The House action that stripped food stamp funding from a massive farm bill would threaten vital assistance for about 5,000 military families, mostly from the junior enlisted ranks, Pentagon officials said Friday.

A Department of Agriculture report last year showed that more than 5,000 of the 48 million Americans receiving Supplementary Nutritional Assistance Program (food stamps) listed their employment status as "active duty military," the Pentagon officials said.

"Military members who receive SNAP tend to be made up of members in junior pay grades with larger than average household sizes," said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen, a Defense Department spokesman.
