Military building boom that buoyed Texas comes to a halt

WASHINGTON — Military construction that buffered the Texas economy during the recession is coming to an end as Pentagon officials ponder budget cuts and a shrinking force structure.

“It looks to me like the big building boom from the military is screeching to a halt,” said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who has overseen a decade of defense-related growth in San Antonio.

President Barack Obama's budget blueprint for the 2013 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, contains $450 million in military construction projects in Texas. That compares with less than $640 million in the current fiscal year and $1.1 billion in the previous one.

Obama also has proposed two rounds of base closures as the Pentagon withdraws from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

See? It's all Obama's fault - just in case his budget blueprint has a snowball's chance of passing in the current Congressional climate.

Most (R)s are going to need a translator to tell them "It's Obama's fault", but is this really going to fly with so many other economic and political issues?

Seriously, wasn't Rick Perry just a gag the GOP played on the people of Texas?
