A New Boston, Texas, woman accused of mailing letters tainted with the toxin ricin to President Barack Obama and others will remain behind bars while her case proceeds.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven ordered Shannon Guess Richardson to remain in the custody of federal marshals after hearing arguments from her defense attorney, Tonda Curry of Tyler, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Coan.
Richardson has been in custody since her arrest June 7.
Craven cited concern that Richardson might flee the jurisdiction and the circumstances of the alleged offenses.
Richardson is accused of mailing a ricin laced letter to Obama, New York Mayor Michael Bloomburg and Michael Glaze, head of a gun control advocacy group.

She was in cuffs, shackles and a belly chain at her court appearance according to another article in the Texarkana Gazette.
Okay, I never heard of a belly chain before. Is it tethered to the ring in her pierced navel?

(17,064 posts)There's a short chain from the handcuffs to the belly chain to limit arm movement. Theres also a chain from the belly chain to the ankle shackles to limit leg movement. I think its only used for prisoners with a high risk of violence or disruptive behavior.
