AUSTIN Maybe the maroon Texas license plate 12THMAN that was auctioned this week should have read BIG$$$.
The winner, Houston trial lawyer Tony Buzbee, forked out $115,000 for the privilege of having the plate.

A lucky Aggie fan bought the "12THMAN" plate for a record amount.
Houston attorney Tony Buzbee purchased the plate for $115,000 during an online auction that ended today, according to Kim Miller Drummond said. The amount broke the previous record for a specialty plate of $25,000 for "HOUSTON" at the Houston Auto Show.
Drummond said Buzbee plans to give the plate away to an Iraqi war veteran.
The specialty plate will be presented to Buzbee during the Texas A&M-Alabama game on Saturday.
Whoever gets the plate can own it for life, according to the terms and conditions. The plate will be valid for 10 years and the owner will have first right of renewal.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Texas general revenue fund and Texas A&M University.

that would assist the other eleven players on the football field. Texas A&M actually has the slogan trademarked and got into a legal battle with the Seattle Seahawks when the Seahawks tried to steal the slogan a few years ago.
Here is the full story about the tradition:

ready to go in if needed. The tradition goes way back.
The football team usually has an honorary 12th Man player or Special Team, for which students tryout, for opening kickoff. Jackie Sherrill had the special team, but I think it is now a student under subsequent coaches.
Texas A&M is chock-full of traditions, including having the largest military band in the world, marching over 300.
