Rick Perry opposes GOP tactic to shut down government over Obamacare

Gov. Rick Perry called it “nonsensical” for Congressional Republicans to refuse to fund government unless money for the Affordable Care Act is stripped out.

“I don’t think it’s a good option,” Perry said in an interview with ABC News, talking about the threat to shutdown government. “There’s still time to sit down and try to fix Obamacare.”

His statement came as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was in the last hours of a marathon talkathon trying to delay government funding. Cruz has steadfastly promoted a tactic envisioned to force Democrats and the president to relent on Obamacare in face of a government shutdown.

Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, and U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth are holding a telephone conference call to talk about how such a shutdown would hurt Texas military personnel and their families.
