CD-27: Solomon Ortiz, Jr. (D) Considering Challenge to Congressman Blake Farenthold (R)

[div style="width:20%;"]
Solomon Ortiz, Jr.

Until 2010, Texas' 27th congressional district had been represented by Democratic Congressman Solomon Ortiz (D). Rep. Ortiz lost his seat in 2010 to one of the more unusual Republicans who ran that cycle: Blake Farenthold (R). It was Farenthold's first run for political office, and he prevailed by a surprising 799 vote victory after raising an unimpressive $618,312.85 through the 2010 election cycle. Farenthold was best known for his attendance at a birthday party a year before running for congress where he was seen wearing ducky pajamas while in the company of several scantily clad women. After the 2012 redistricting cycle, District 27 changed from a district that went from Corpus Christi south to the border into one that went from Corpus Christi north to Bastrop.

With a little more than a week left until the filing deadline, Democrats may have found a quality candidate to take on Rep. Farenthold.

Former State Representative Solomon Ortiz Jr. (D) has reportedly gone to Washington D.C. and met with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about a potential run against Congressman Farenthold.

And Blake is SISSY'S GRANDSON!!!

I pushed cards for Sissy when she ran for Governor in 1972. She's a Texas Democratic icon.

Hope this guy Ortiz runs and wins!!!

I haven't seen any of your posts lately. I'm getting settled into the new apartment and job hunting so we'll see what happens.

Ortiz is a solid pick and I think that he is capable of upsetting Ducky Jamas, particularly if the Democrats have a strong turnout in 2014 with the probable nominees (Davis, Van de Putte) at the top of the ticket. I was surprised when Ortiz got knocked out of the Texas House back in 2010. He has the advantage of his family name and some organization already so this is a district that could sway back into the Democratic column.

It's now an R+13 district so it would take quite a bit of work. TX has been gerrymandered so much that District 23 is the only competitive one in the state.

Farenthold is a profound embarrassment, even by Texas Republican standards. He needs to be kicked out of office, ASAP.

The Democratic candidate for the 27th Congressional seat is Wesley Reed. Reed was a fighter pilot in the Marines and I believe that he is an airline pilot now.

You are absolutely correct about getting rid of DuckyJama and returning this traditionally blue congressional seat back to the Democratic column.
