Lieutenant Governor’s Skimpy Assignments for Senate Education Committee Leave Out Big Issues- See mo

David Dewhurst on January 9 announced a skimpy list of study topics for the Texas Senate Education Committee that is remarkable for what it leaves out. Today Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, a member of that committee who also happens to be running for lieutenant governor, called Dewhurst out for omitting what she terms “the most pressing education challenges” facing the state. Van De Putte noted that the Dewhurst list leaves out school finance entirely and also fails to address the need for expanding access to quality pre-K—two key public concerns she had specifically asked Dewhurst to include among the committee’s interim study assignments.
