I put myself through college, and she as well, said Oliver, the first-born of seven children from Washington, D.C., who came to Texas at 19.
I am grateful that I did not have anything that set me back, that would have kept me from doing the things that Ive done, said Oliver, who is both a medical doctor and a lawyer, with a degree from South Texas College of Law.

She thinks the state needs more moderate leadership, and one more in tune with what she said is Texans desire to help each other out.
I think big business is great, but theres got to be a balance. Theres a sweet spot somewhere that I just dont think weve got in Texas.
I was just inspired to give, and I trust my intuition, and, in particular, I believe in fairness and trying to make our society a better and fairer society, she said. I believe that our Texas government doesnt represent the fairness that I think Texans feel.
