Greg Abbott regains fundraising edge over Wendy Davis

Attorney General Greg Abbott raised more than three times as much money the first three weeks of January as state Sen. Wendy Davis did, leaving him with a cash advantage of $29.4 million to the Fort Worth Democrat’s $10.2 million.

The totals were released Monday by the respective gubernatorial campaigns based on their 30-day pre-primary fundraising reports. Abbott raised $3.1 million and Davis, $913,000 from Jan. 1-23, the campaigns reported.

Abbott's money came from 9200 donors. Thus the math looks like this.

Avg. amount of contribution for Davis: $24 and change (rounding)

For Abbott: $336.95

Any questions?

and be wealthier thanks to wisdom.

I believe that Wendy's campaign will raise funds with more donors contributing on an incremental basis. I suspect that Abbott's supporters will be of the mindset of "you only get to go to the well once" (a typical tightwad RW attitude) and they won't pony up when Greg begs again.

5. I don't often donate outside my state, but, IMO, Wendy is donate worthy.

On edit. Money does often equate to votes. Not small differences, but a lot of religious money from around the country is going to go to fighting Wendy, as well as a lot of secular conservative money from around the country. Just like the Koch brothers backed Senator Brown to the hilt in Massachusetts because of the symbolism of a Republican win in that state, they will back Wendy's opponent to block a Democratic victory of that significance in Texas. And, hello, it's oil wealth Texas.

If we want Wendy, we'd best put our money where our mouth and her campaign fund is, to the very best of our ability; and hope like anything that the DNC and organizations like EMILY's list do the same.

8. The press coverage this last month has been pretty rough for Wendy.

She was attacked for some stretches in her background and the entire campaign has taken a hit for the "Stand with Wendy" slogan since RWers claim it is an insensitive attack on Abbott since he is a paraplegic.

Other than the attacks of "Abortion Barbie", there has very little discussion about issues in this campaign which may be due to the fact that it is still primary season. When I read comments to the political columns amongst the various newspaper there are numerous negative remarks about Wendy compared to scarce remarks criticizing Abbott. I tend to think that is tied more to an age bias though.

9. Wendy's earlier fundraising numbers put a scare in the Texas GOP

Greg is going to spend more money than Wendy. The big GOP contributors have already invested more than $30 million in Greg and they are not going to risk their investment. We are lucky in that Greg is not a great campaigner and is running a weak campaign.
