Politics Goes On, With or Without You

By Carol Morgan

Early voting begins today and I can already hear the excuses about being too busy or not wanting to get involved in contentious arguments, and the I-don’t-care-about-politics-because-it-doesn’t-make-any-difference conversations

But here’s the deal, even if you choose not to vote, politics will go on without you. And that’s the real reason why you must exercise your right to vote.

Your renunciation of political involvement resulted in Iraq and Afghanistan and income inequality on a national level. It’s allowed special interests to run our country, our state and even the City of Lubbock. It’s allowed corruption, unethical behavior, and illegal activities to proliferate without end.

I’m tired of hearing people remark, “I don’t do politics.” Those individuals are the very first to grumble when things go wrong. Even those who vote seem to think that their responsibility ends after they cast their ballot.

to limit who votes, it should seem obvious that you are giving them a small victory by not voting since they didn't have to spend any capital on you're not voting.

At our county executive committee last night, the party chair made the point that you need to vote early because you could die or become unable to vote later.
