DGA sets up Wendy Davis PAC

AUSTIN — The Democratic Governors Association is fueling Wendy Davis’ bid for the state’s top office with a new political action committee that raised $50,000 last month for the Tarrant County senator’s expected general election bid against Attorney General Greg Abbott.

The DGA for Wendy Davis PAC filed its first report with the Texas Ethics Commission this week. The DGA is the arm of the party that helps raise money to elect Democratic governors, and is set in 2014 to target Republican incumbents in key battleground states like Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Drawing its money for the Davis PAC from DGA funds, the committee’s current balance is sourced via a $50,000 contribution from Joe Anderson, who co-founded an Arizona health care firm and later sold it to Aetna for $535 million (Anderson didn’t make the contribution directly to Davis; the DGA used the cash as seed money, of sorts, to establish the PAC).

-snip-

Still, that the national Democratic group established a PAC for Davis is a sign of its intention to get involved in the Texas governor’s race, but the extent and amounts of money that will flow as a result are still open questions.
