Update: Austin Will Not Bid for 2016 Democratic National Convention

Austin will not bid to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Mayor Lee Leffingwell announced Wednesday.

The Democratic National Committee recently invited about two dozen cities to apply for the hosting duties, and proposals were due by March 1.

Austin was honored to be asked, but the city does not have a sufficient transportation network or a big enough event venue to meet the requirements set out by the party, Leffingwell said.

“We must decline the invitation,” he told reporters.

the Teabaggerati would likely consider it a declaration of war. We aren't quite a swing state yet anyway (although I am hopeful).

Fuck the national party. All they want to do is use us as their whipping boy, then come back with their hands out for money.
