Anti-gay groups oppose holding 2016 GOP Convention in Vegas, bolstering Dallas’ bid

The Dallas Morning News reports that several religious right groups have sent a letter to Rance Priebus, chair of the Republican National Committee, urging him not to pick Las Vegas as the site of the 2016 GOP convention.

The groups behind the letter include the American Family Association, the Eagle Forum and the Traditional Values Coalition.

“In spite of ‘family-friendly’ outreach in the past decade, Las Vegas remains a metaphor for all things decadent,” the letter said, according to the Morning News. “And looking at the yellow pages, one can see that it still delivers. With 64 pages of escort services and countless gambling casinos, it remains a trap waiting to ensnare.

“At a time when the base needs to be motivated, this is no time to mute or offend them in any way,” the letter said. “It may seem strange, silly even to some that conservatives would object to something that COULD be so innocuous. Surely there are shows and great restaurants and beautiful hotels. … What could possible go wrong? The answer is obvious, and wisdom dictates the chance not be taken.

and indeed, I sympathize, as I am in Florida, that other state a lot of self righteous types want to throw out of the union (despite the fact that NJ elected Christie, MA elected Romney, Minnesota elected Bachmann and California elected Ahhh-NOLD.) I know we get tired of people thinking we are like the idiots that mug for the camera, that the media feeds. However, even though I am a liberal in Dixie, I cannot deny what many of my fellow residents will do. The fact is, the GOP has soiled Dixie, amping up the worst sides to it's advantage. This act soured voters, and as a result, they are trying to go for a cleaner image, which sadly, Las Vegas is. They will hide behind the glittery eye candy, and take umpteen shots with the Log Cabin Republicans, and say "Look, we ain't lynchin this guy, we can't be bigots!"

I do hope they success in forcing it to Texas, two reasons:

One, Sheldon Addison will throw a fit, and close his wallet. This can start a crack in the wall, where even the ultra rich pigs that a dozen dollars out of every ten realize that the GOP will cook their economic goose, that they will gladly run the economy aground for their egos, and that yes, they will sink too. Two, Las Vegas will allow the GOP to say "yeah, we were sleazy, but look how we have changed." Las Vegas is loved by the media because it produces lots of shiny, glittery distraction, the sort of fluffy eye candy that the media would love to cover instead of News. Last year, the convention was in my hometown of Tampa, and thanks to a Hurricane, no one got to fly their freak flags as much as they wanted.

Of course, we know that the only difference between Las Vegas old and new is that instead being run by Mafiosi that kill employees that get caught skimming, they are run by corporations that encourage skimming. Even the Mafiosi realized America needed unions.

If the GOP comes to Texas, they will free free to fly their freak flags (and by that I mean the Stars and Bars, Don't tread on me, etc.) The GOP knows they need to sell the idea that they are "not that type of republican" aka "compassionate conservatives." having the campaign in Texas will rile up the lunatics so bad that they cannot help but drag the potential candidate right.

What's Jeb gonna do?, act like he was not born there? Deny the hometown crowd that will "cheer" him and expect him to the to the right of his brother and daddy? Smile as the people who think his family is too far left mug for airtime?

What Christie gonna do?, wear a cowboy hat and pretend he fits in? Smile as the people who would not elect Jesus Christ if he had a Yankee accent mug for the camera?

You could insert the same for every GOP candidate, except for Marco Rubio. There, the knives will be out, as Rubio could promise to nuke the whole of Latin America into dust, and that would be bar, far, far, far too little for some of the folks.

and last, but for from least, the Oil industry will parade it's glory. The funny thing about Vegas is, it only exists because of hydroelectric power, provided by a FDR era GOVERNMENT PROJECT. In Texas, the OIl Mafiosi will be there to squash dissent and mug for the camera, which will give a perfect image. If any GOP dares breathe a whisp of anything that deviates from "Drill Baby Drill" the GOP will not silence them, it will whip them, pummel them, like some drunk yahoo in a "wifebeater" shirt. Thanks to the venue being in Texas, they will have that much more confidence to turn to the camera, not even bother to take the Marlboro out of their mouth, and say "Yeah I just whooped my woman and her red headed stepchild, wacha gonna do about it, BOY!?"

or provide appropriate Women's Health Care for the huge number of poor women. Instead the GOP shut down most all women's health clinics even though they did not do abortions. Texans are well aware of the GOP hatred toward the population. Do not forget about the voter suppression laws that are going on too.

There very well could be an Occupy Dallas Event to surround the event of GOP Hateful Birds Gathering.

I hope they don't come here. I don't want that hateful, looney circus around here.

But I have a very strong feeling Colorado will win. Maybe they can't go to Vegas because these family values republicans can't keep from buying hookers. But I think they very much want to take advantage of the legal weed.

If they don't have the convention here in Denver, I'll be very surprised. Maybe Dallas can secure and ensure hookers and drugs privately so these good christian men don't get caught with their pants down.

But here's the thing. What's worse? Having the convention in Las Vegas where your hypocrisy might be exposed. Or, have it in the Bible Belt where your religious agenda will be exposed?

You choose.

Literally with their pants down. And with all these smart phones around, instant infamy is one tweet away. I'd love to see them in compromising positions.

You are getting the GOP that you have been praying for; what happens in Vegas does not stay in Vegas anymore.
