Love Story for the Ages: Nederland husband, wife die hours apart
Nederland, Texas -- Arthur Orvis Beard and Oneida Beard fell in love after he got back from World War II in 1945 and a year later the two promised to live as one 'til death they did part, a vow they took to heart.
Orvis, 93, suffered a stroke about two weeks ago and died early Sunday at his Nederland home.
The next day, his brother, John Beard, got a call that Oneida, 95, had died.
John Beard was shocked. He expected Oneida probably would die soon after her husband had passed, but not the next day.
