Officials talk water treaty, eye deficit; Mexico falling behind again on allocations
In November, Mexico announced its water-priority list, which allocates 100 percent of the countrys water to various users and entities along its river basins.
The United States, again, was not on that list of water users, despite specific requirements laid out concerning water sharing between the two countries that impact the Rio Grande Valley.
Officials in Texas have grown used to being left off the list, they explained Tuesday during a briefing on the binational water treaty in Brownsville, but those officials have plans to ensure Mexico begins taking its requirements more seriously in the future.
Carlos Rubinstein, chairman of the Texas Water Development Board, shared a presentation with farmers and other water stakeholders that examined the 1944 Water Treaty in depth while noting the lack of compliance from Mexico in recent cycles.
