Rep. Mike Villarreal (D) wants to be San Antonio's mayor
SAN ANTONIO With Mayor Julián Castro headed to Washington to join the Cabinet of President Barack Obama, the jockeying among candidates to replace him has begun.
Among those who thinks the time is ripe to run for mayor in 2015 is state Rep. Mike Villarreal.
The longtime state representative immediately started seeking support from community leaders when news broke over the weekend about Castro's expected departure.

From his Wikipedia bio: Villarreal serves as Chair of the House Committee on Investments and Financial Services and as a member of the House Committee on Public Education. A Democrat currently in his eighth term, Villarreal previously worked for San Antonio's SAMCO Capitol Markets, specializing in municipal finance.
Villarreal holds an undergraduate economics degree from Texas A&M University. He later studied economics at MIT and Harvard and holds a Master's in Public Policy from Kennedy School of Government. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in public affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
Villarreal was named as one of Texas' best legislators by Texas Monthly and has been commended by the local Sierra Club for his legislative work to protect the environment.
