Is Rick Perry Really Worth $3,000,000?? (yes, that's million)

Submitted by Carol Morgan on April 1, 2012 - 11:55am

When I read on Friday that Texas taxpayers were going to be on the hook for $3,000,000 for Rick Perry’s security detail in his unsuccessful run for the Presidency, I was outraged. And what’s more, I’m outraged that more Texans aren’t outraged.

In February, I mentioned the million dollar price tag for Perry’s foolish foray into national politics that embarrassed all of us and a commenter remarked that it was much ado about nothing; his campaign would pay for it.

Well, guess what, Kids? It’s not. Yes, that’s right. We are going to pay for it; you and me. After our legislators cut education to the bone and literally stole food out of the mouths of little children and senior citizens, Rick Perry’s “security” is paramount; it trumps the survival of us mere mortals. In Perry’s mind, he is the King of Texas, chosen by God, a prophet that no one understands. So much for state spending. It’s more important to fund his safety than to fund education and the health of 300,000 low-income women.

Perry’s bootlickers will argue that it is far less money than the President’s security detail, but that’s the President! He’s not some backwater moron who chose to run for President and failed! Rick Perry’s campaign money should pay for this trip into comicsville, not the Texas taxpayers.

You may read the gory details here: http://www.texastribune.org/texas-politics/2012-presidential-election/perry-security-costs-go-again/ and how the tab is certain to go even higher than the three million assessed so far.

I mean, I am far from a Perry supporter or anything, but am I supposed to be any more angry about this than the amount spent on any of the Republican candidates security? I don't think I disagree with any of them any more than I disagree with Perry.

The only two that hold office are Bachmann and Ron Paul. Their security was not paid with state funds.

Newt and Romney's security? I am, but I am still confused about what you are getting at.

with either private funds or through their campaign accounts instead of taxpayer funds.

I don't have any issues with SS protection because at that point the candidate is viable enough to be a target for assassination.

Hell no he's not worth $3 million of taxpayer money. Total waste of taxpayer money. I would rather that money go to fund women's health services around Texas.

Perry's campaign should have paid for that failed run for the Presidency.

He should have to pay it out of pocket, lord knows he has scammed enough dough out of the taxpayers coffers already. He CAN afford it!

there's a lawsuit yet regarding this matter. Anything Perry does financially is suspect. He needs to be constantly audited.
