Mike Yassine, Marisse Ruales accused of case tampering
AUSTIN -- There's a new twist on the Yassine case. March 22, 2012, federal agents raided nine bars and clubs in Austin. Prosecutors later indicted ten people for money laundering and drug trafficking inside those clubs. But the story doesn't stop there. The prosecutors also said the club's owners funneled money to terror groups in the Middle East and to drug cartels.
The clubs downtown owned by the Yassines remain closed, but Sunday evening there's new information. Another face is surfacing, Romel Gomez. Gomez was arrested by Round Rock police Feb. 4, 2012 on five charges, including criminal mischief, criminal trespassing and three counts of violating a protection order.
According to prosecutors, the charges were brought by his wife. Mike Yassine and Marisse Ruales are accused of tampering with Gomez's wife -- offering her $10,000 to drop the charges.
Prosecutors said the woman refused the bribe, so Mike Yassine made a second offer, $1,000 a month in child support for more than 20 years, in exchange she would drop the charges against Gomez. Again, she refused.
