1. GOP sweep
Republicans are poised again to roll up big victories. Gov. Rick Perrys decision not to run for re-election set off a wild scramble. From governor on down, each major statewide office will get a new occupant.
2. Democratic tally
Four years ago, Democrat Bill White got 42 percent in losing to Perry. It was Democrats best showing since 1994. The question now is whether the partys pick, Wendy Davis, can top that against Republican Greg Abbott.
3. A new Bush
Texans will see another Bush on Election Day. George P. Bush (right), son of potential 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush and nephew of George W., is expected to cruise into the land commissioners office.
4. Battle for No. 2
For lieutenant governor, Republican Dan Patrick has run a low-key campaign against the far more active Democrat, Leticia Van de Putte. The outcome may be closer than in the governors matchup as Patrick is considered too conservative for even some GOP voters.
5. Money for roads
Voters are being asked to approve funneling up to $1.7 billion to improve roads and highways. Transportation officials are eager for that but say it falls short of whats needed to maintain current traffic levels on jammed roads.

[font style="font-family:papyrus,'Brush Script MT','comic sans MS',fantasy;" size=3 color=teal]The Lt. Governor is the most powerful official in the State of Texas; and the idea of Dan Patrick as Lt. Gov. makes me physically ill.
My only consolation is that my representative district is a democratic strong hold. Too bad the democrats in my district are almost as bad as the republicans in the rest of the country
Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon. District 23 is looking like we might go repuke
