65-year-old man charged with DWI 12 times was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Bexar County
San Antonio -- A man who's been arrested a dozen times for driving while intoxicated in Bexar County was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison.
Carlos Faz, 65, signed a plea agreement in January that stipulated he would either get 10 years in prison or 10 years probation for the second-degree felony offense.
State District Judge Kevin O'Connell's sentence marks the lengthiest term given to Faz, who was first arrested on DWI charges in 1975. A blood test revealed Faz had a blood-alcohol concentration of .19 at the time of his arrest, which is more than twice the legal limit of intoxication.
Defense attorney George Scharmen had asked the judge to have mercy on his client and give him probation so he could seek treatment for alcoholism.
