Abbott re-ignites call for business tax cuts, and he's open to others
AUSTIN Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday reignited his call for business tax relief, and while he didn't emphasize his previous call for property tax relief, he said he thought property taxes are too high.
In doing so, Abbott stepped back from taking sides in a debate in the House and Senate, where the House wants to provide tax relief through sales tax cuts, and the Senate wants relief through property tax cuts.
"Today is a very frustrating day for many Americans," Abbott said, noting the April 15 deadline for many to file income taxes or request an extension.
"When it comes to reducing taxes, we want to be strategic about it," he said at the office of vcfo, a financial and business services firm in Austin. "We want to reduce taxes in a way that most profoundly leads to job creation."
