Report: Driver was inattentive in Salado bridge crash on I-35
A Texas Department of Public Safety report faults a truck driver that caused a partial bridge collapse on Interstate 35 in Salado, which led to the death of one man, for failing to heed warnings of the clearance of the FM 2484 overpass.
The narrative of the crash calls 41-year-old Valentin Martinez inattentive and says he was hauling an illegal oversized load when he caused the crash on March 26.
The overtall load collided with the partially constructed overpass, causing concrete beams to dislodge and fall across I-35. One of the beams landed on the pickup truck of Arlington resident Clark Brandon Davis, 32, crushing the truck and killing him, the report states.
Martinezs truck is owned by Crowley-based firm Lares Trucking. The company did not have a permit to haul the trucks over-height load a straight boom lift when it struck the bridge, according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
