Baby's body found in bag on side of Interstate 37 near downtown San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO — A very young baby was found dead Monday morning in a small piece of discarded luggage off Interstate 37 just south of downtown.
San Antonio Police Department spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar said police were called to the interchange from Interstate 37 to Interstate 10 around 10:30 a.m. after a highway maintenance worker stumbled upon the body.
Salazar said the worker had been preparing to mow grass just off the highway when he spotted a small piece of luggage.
The worker opened it, found the baby inside and immediately backed off to call police.
Salazar said the child is very small, and either a newborn or late-term fetus.
