Tea party sets sights on Texas after big victory in Indiana

Emboldened by the ouster of Indiana's establishment Republican senator, national tea party and conservative groups said Wednesday that Texas is ripe for an upset.

They see striking similarities between the GOP front-runner in Texas' U.S. Senate race, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, and Indiana's U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar , a six-term moderate who was trounced in the primary on Tuesday by a tea party challenger.

"The tea party is alive and well, and it had an impact and an influence in Indiana," said Brendan Steinhauser, director of federal and state campaigns for FreedomWorks , a national tea party group.

"Texas is next," he added.

This is unlikely to give us a pickup chance. The Democratic primary race has been almost invisible and it's extremely unlikely that the Obama campaign will devote resources to Texas, which I expect they will in Indiana now. About the only choice is between the Repubs picking between scum and scum raised to the scumth power.

so Cruz certainly has a shot at the job. I may even vote in their primary, mostly to throw in a vote for Huntsman and perhaps try to get a few bad judges out of contention.

then go for it. I refuse to allow myself to be subject to ridicule, scorn and embarrassment while gazing at the VR card while in line at the polls.

6. Let me predict right now that Cruz will win

The crazy Texas Tea Party, plus the general wing nuttery of the Texas republicans in general will elect Cruz in the primary. Dewhurst is viewed pretty much like Kay Bailey was. The wingers in the right are just digging in further into crazy.

And unfortunately, as was mentioned above by NoPasaran, we are not poised for a pick up, no matter how crazy Cruz is. Texas voters are still very loyal to the Rs in this state in general elections. And without major national resources, even by 3rd party groups like the Club for Growth throwing a million dollars behind Cruz, we will be outspent 10 to 1 or even 20 to 1.

8. We are hoping that tea party type beats Pete Olson in the GOP primary

Our local congresscritter Pete Olson has a tea party opponent in the GOP primary. She is a real nut case who evidently interviewed 3,000 hispanics personally and thinks that they all need to be deported. Pete Olson is worried and has been voting even more conservatively lately including voting against the payroll tax break extension.
