Okay, I'm finally able to dump the "No Perry" avatar since Rick Perry suspended his campaign. Since there are no other significant issues at this time in Texas that will fit in a 48 x 48 pixel image everyone with have to deal with the Southwestern University logo instead. At least it is better than the "This Space For Rent" image that I was tempted to post though and we do have the best varsity lacrosse team in the state.

I think the phrase 'putting lipstick on a pig' needs to be changed to 'putting glasses on Rick Perry'.

(112,140 posts)By the way, Southwestern won the football game against McMurry 7-6 tonight in Abilene. The program is in its 3rd year after it was deactivated in 1950. It's our first road win since 1950 so I think I'll leave the avatar up for awhile.

(12,157 posts)Just kidding. I like it. There more institutions of higher learning than UT and TAMU.

(112,140 posts)Southwestern and the University of Dallas. A couple of years ago UD didn't field a team because they couldn't recruit enough players.
Southwestern has played lacrosse since 1983. We also had the first woman on a men's lacrosse team back in 1986. We also managed to beat UT and Texas A&M to win the Texas conference in 1988. The teams at the other universities in Texas are considered club teams rather than varsity teams. Southwestern upgraded from club to varsity a few years ago because we kept beating every other team by such huge margins that it wasn't challenging to the athletes. We also play varsity women's lacrosse and are actually pretty decent in that competition also. I believe that they are the only varsity women's lacrosse team in Texas.
