LUBBOCK -- U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer will not seek another term in 2016.
The Lubbock Republican announced he will not seek an eight term to represent U.S. House District 19 in a written statement sent Thursday afternoon while he was inside the House Chamber.
This was a difficult decision, but I feel this is a good time to end this season of my life and move to another, he wrote. While I am announcing that I will not seek re-election, I am not walking away from the important work that lies ahead. There are still 15 months left in this Congress, and I am committed to work tirelessly on your behalf until the final gavel ends this Congress in January 2017 and another individual takes that special oath soon after.
Neugebauer is the chairman of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee and the vice-chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. He was first elected in 2003 and hadnt had many close competitions since.

Neguebauer was receiving radiation treatment for prostate cancer but has apparently cancer-free. He ranks as one of the most conservative members of Congress. His family has profited handsomely during his Congressional career and it is believed that his son is a billionaire who is taking advantage of tax shelter laws by residing in Puerto Rico.
In his election in 2014 he faced former Lubbock County Republican chairman Chris Winn and retired retinal eye surgeon Dr. Donald May who writes the "Mr. Conservative" blog for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. Dr. May is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with a Texas Tech law student who alleges sexual harassment charges. (More here on that case here: Update on Lubbock's Mr. Conservative -- Judge denies petition to depose in sexual harassment case.
It will be interesting if Mr. Conservative decides to enter the race hoping that he will finally get a cushy position in Congress.

(28,243 posts)I'm sure he'll be replaced by another west Texas repub asshole---but maybe his replacement won't go out of his or her way to make a public spectacle of themselves, spewing hatred at a female park ranger, trying to perform her job in trying circumstances. Do us all a favor and disappear, Neugebauer.

(9 posts)While it's certainly great news that douche-bag Neugebauer will no longer be around, my one concern is that he will be replaced with a worse, even douchier douche-bag.
