Travis County GOP deletes tweet calling Islam a ‘satanic cult of murder’

The Travis County Republican Party on Tuesday removed a post from its Twitter account that said, “ISLAM IS A SATANIC CULT OF MURDER NOT A ‘RELIGION’ ” and linked to an anti-Muslim article on ConservativeDailyNews.com.

Andy Hogue, the party’s communications director, then posted on his own account that he deleted the tweet but did not post it.

“It’s rare for me to remove a post, but this did not reflect our platform. Several grassroots contributors on acct,” tweeted Hogue, who has previously worked for the Texas General Land Office and the Workforce Commission, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The deleted tweet wasn’t the only post about Islam on the Travis GOP’s account, which has also recently posted, “Awkward Truth About Obama-Muslim Rumors: ‘It All Started With’ Hillary Clinton” and “America Must Listen to Nations Experienced with Muslim ‘Refugees’ ” with links to articles from conservative commentators.
