Poll: half of Texans support gay marriage, legalization of marijuana
Nearly half of Texans support gay marriage up from 29 percent in 2009 according to a Texas Lyceum poll released Wednesday morning.
Also, more Texans support legalization of marijuana 46 percent, up 13 percent since 2011 and of those of oppose legalization, more than half say marijuana should be decriminalized, according to the survey, conducted Sept. 8-21.
Texans continue to believe that the economy is the most important issue in the U.S., and they remain concerned about border security. Nearly two-thirds said they supported the state Legislature approving $800 million for border security, including hundreds more state troopers stationed at the border.
The recent Texas Lyceum Poll, the groups ninth measure of Texans views, surveyed adult Texans attitudes on a variety of issues such that also included the Affordable Care Act, climate change and youth football. The group also asked respondents about the presidential race. That data will be revealed Thursday.
