Greg Abbott pledges to push anti-abortion laws next session

Gov. Greg Abbott said he plans to promote legislation next year aimed at ending “Planned Parenthood’s barbaric practices of harvesting baby body parts” during a benefit dinner for Texas Alliance for Life on Wednesday.

Texas Alliance for Life, an anti-abortion advocacy group, awarded Abbott the “Courageous Defense of Life Award” during the dinner, celebrating his efforts to battle abortion.

“Because of what you’ve done, Texas is not the same,” said Joe Pojman, the group’s executive director. “Because of what you will do, Texas will never be the same.”

Abbott said he plans to continue fighting for the anti-abortion cause next session, when he hopes to pass elements of his “LIFE Initiative.” The initiative calls for laws to defund Planned Parenthood and make it a felony to perform partial-birth abortions.
