Trump edges Clinton by 3 points in UT/Texas Tribune poll
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump holds a 3-point lead over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in Texas, according to new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll released early Thursday.
According to the poll, Trump receives 45 percent support from likely voters to 42 percent for Clinton, 7 percent for Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, 2 percent for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, and 5 percent for someone else.
The result from the poll, conducted Oct. 14-23, is in keeping with three other recent polls that showed Clinton within 3 or 4 percentage points of Trump in Texas. Those polls led the political site, RealClear Politics, to move Texas from the lean Trump column to tossup status on Sunday.
But a new Crosswind/American-Statesman Texas Pulse poll conducted Saturday through Monday, found Trump 7 points ahead of Clinton, a small margin by historical standards in very red Texas but comfortably beyond the margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
