Texas rep wants to flush state's 'tampon tax'

A north Texas lawmaker wants to do away with the state's "tampon tax."

Rep. Drew Springer wants to add feminine hygiene products to a list of items exempt from sales taxes that includes acne treatment, dandruff shampoo and laxatives.

Spring's bill would cover tampons, panty liners, menstrual cups, sanitary napkins and other similar tangible personal property sold for the purpose of feminine hygiene in connection with the menstrual cycle.

Springer, R-Meunster, told The Lubbock Avalanche Journal that the issue is a big one in his district.
