Michael McCaul: We will build a wall and Mexico will pay for it

Since his election, Donald Trump has seemingly softened his stance on building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, saying that parts of it could be a fence. He also hasn’t spoken lately about Mexico paying for a wall, a line that drew huge applause during his campaign rallies.

But U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, who is in the running to become Trump’s secretary of Homeland Security, is renewing Trump’s campaign pledge for a border wall, and has come up with his own ideas on how Mexico can pay for it.

In an opinion article on Fox News, McCaul says the U.S. could pay for a wall by imposing new immigration fees on Mexicans, charge a “security toll” on border crossings, and freezing the assets of drug cartels.

He said other Latin American countries should help pay for the wall, as well.

Since at least 2012, people have been using small RC drones to smuggle contraband, whether it's bringing in kilos of heroin from Mexico into the United States or attempting to drop off bundles of drugs in prison rec yards. Below, six tales of drones making smuggling runs, sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much.

In 2015, a drone loaded down with 7 pounds of meth slammed into the parking lot of shopping center just two miles from the U.S.-Mexican border. Authorities think the poor drone was unable to support the weight of all that meth, leading to its eventual crash landing.

There are reports of hundreds of drones ferrying drugs across the border on a regular basis. The ones they catch are but a minuscule fraction of the fleet/
