Red Kettle update: Donations up roughly $200,000 since Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott made his deposit
It all began when Ezekiel Elliott deposited himself in a red kettle after scoring a touchdown.
One night later, the Cowboys running back tweeted that he was donating $21,000 to the Salvation Army and asked others to donate $21 to feed a family of three for three days.
By Tuesday afternoon, Lt. Col. Ron Busroe, the Community Relations and Development Secretary for the Salvation Army, said more than 1,000 donations had poured in as a response.
The bottom line: Elliott's tweet solicited $22,000 for the Salvation Army in the 16 hours after his challenge. Busroe said since Elliott jumped into that kettle Sunday evening, the organization has collected roughly $200,000 more than it did over a previous period one week earlier.
