Texas Judge Sarah Eckhardt Wears Women's March Hat In Courtroom

Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt brings her politics to work.

Austin, Texas – Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt was captured in pictures after showing up to court on January 24th while wearing a “pussy hat.”

A photo of Judge Sarah Eckhardt showed up in a now-deleted Reddit post. The picture shows Judge Eckhardt wearing the pink cat-ear hat which is associated with the anti-Trump women’s march. People were understandably upset to see a judge promoting an anti-Trump movement in her courtroom.

This photo initially appears to show a violation of judge ethics rules by using her position to promote opposition for a political candidate. However, Judge Eckhardt is not a typical judge.

KVUE reports:

In Travis County, the “County Judge” position is an elected role. The winner of the election oversees the commissioners court and is in many ways a commissioner themselves.

Similar to a City Council and mayor relationship, the County Judge acts as the head of the Commissioners and county government.

KVUE’s Jason Puckett reached out to multiple county departments to verify that this behavior was acceptable and found that almost every source he spoke with agreed – Eckhardt is in the clear.
