Planned Parenthood's Texas affiliate draws record crowd, $1 million from Dallas luncheon

Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas achieved something last Wednesday that no affiliate of the organization has ever done: It brought in $1 million in gross proceeds at its annual awards luncheon at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

A record crowd of 1,600 people braved the valet-parking gridlock to get into the luncheon, which had tallied $800,000 in contributions before the doors opened.

Co-chairs Lindsay A. Billingsley and Laura B. Wright urged the audience to give an additional $200,000 via a text-message pledge drive during the event.

Board chair Rabbi Alan R. Freedman and invocation speaker Rev. Dr. Neil G. Cazares-Thomas both passionately expressed their dedication to health care and reproductive control for all women.
