Dewhurst: Texans' anger at Washington misdirected at Texas Capitol

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst on Friday continued to fight a battle that he had lost three days before when Ted Cruz defeated him for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination.

Cruz and his allies had effectively cast Dewhurst as a tax-and-spend moderate, a criticism that Dewhurst was still eager to rebut during a rare meeting of the Legislative Budget Board at the Texas Capitol.

"There are a lot of Texans who are so mad and angry at Washington — and I'm mad and angry at Washington, too — (they) have a hard time understanding how any other form of government, such as state government, could actually cut taxes, which we did, and cut spending, which we did," Dewhurst said.

Dewhurst declined to discuss his political future beyond saying that he loves working for the people of Texas. His current terms ends in 2014, and many politicos looking to move up are waiting to see whether Dewhurst — and his deep pockets — will run again.

You cut taxes, you cut spending and in doing so you threw people under a bus, along with that so-called "Christianity" you all love to brag about.

... you forgot to mention the State of Texas' massive deficit, schools in trouble, state parks in trouble, layoffs, etc.

I've been angry with Texas a lot longer than Washington. I blame Texas for the current state of politics in D.C. I live in Dallas, so how the hell did I wind up with representative from Athens (Jeb Hensarling)?

If you are in southeast Dallas then you (and the other minorities) were carved into Hensarling's district in order to prevent the creation of a district that could be winnable by a Democrat.

Since the Bush and west Texas invasion, I've gone from middle class to poverty. I'm not from a minority, unless you count being an intelligent female as one.

I shouldn't have assumed that you were a member of a minority group so I deserve this spanking.

Do they have a foot-in-mouth smilie here?

This used to be a very democratic neighborhood, but willful ignorance has taken over.
