Ex-Chevron Phillips Chemical employee admits to embezzling nearly $2M
A 54-year-old Pasadena woman admitted embezzling nearly $2 million from Chevron Philips Chemical Co., according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Darla Kay Beede used company credit cards for her own personal benefit, the release said. She used the cards to buy pre-paid debit or gift cards and copper wire.
The woman would hide her crime by falsifying receipts from vendors, changing the item descriptions to reflect something other than her unlawful purchases, according to investigators.
Beede also forged expense account statements and authorization signatures to conceal her crime. Additionally, the release said, she would provide fake receipts from various vendors to accounts payable at Chevron Phillips for spending justification.
