Judge Adams' pay up to $110,000 as his suspension drags on
ROCKPORT — Taxpayers now have footed the bill for more than $110,000 of an Aransas County judge's salary and allowances while he remains on suspension during an investigation related to a video showing him beating his daughter.
The family law judge's suspension is raising the stakes in a long-running community debate about whether a county court-at-law even is necessary, courthouse officials said.
County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams agreed to a suspension with pay in November, after his daughter posted a nearly eight-minute YouTube video, recorded seven years earlier when the girl was 16.
It shows the judge — and, at one point, her mother — striking her more than a dozen times with a belt while issuing an obscenity-laced tirade.
