I ran for "dog catcher" and I won!

Just joking, I ran for Precinct Chair and I won

In early February, I pulled out a sample ballot and saw my name on it.

My jaw almost dropped.

Long story how it got on there, but it is what it is.

When I saw my name on the ballot, I wasn't going to campaign at all.

Then, I started thinking about it and thinking about it.

So, I campaigned and got 80% of the vote! (My opponent was not engaged with his precinct. He didn't campaign)

Get phone numbers in VAN(Voter Action Network) up to date. Assure voters have the tools they need to vote. Remind them about elections etc. Get better turn out in mid-terms. etc etc

Sounds like you really have your eye on the ball. You're going to make some things happen in your district!

They sure won't be rudderless anymore. Lucky to have your energy, conviction, and a full plate of ideas!

Does Bexar County have precinct chair training? Tarrant has developed an excellent training for new and existing chairs with VAN Lessons, ways to approach neighbors, etc.

I have so far discovered that my precinct is full of disconnected phone numbers, re assigned phone numbers and folks who don't vote in primaries. Lots of footwork coming up now that the primaries are over and the weather is milder.

I have been block walking in other precincts since this past summer. (Mostly in Will Hurd's (R) congressional district) I live in Castro's district, but my neighborhood is about 60% Republican.

I received VAN training and access from Battle Ground Texas. (They did awesome training)
I know what you mean about the disconnected phone numbers and people who don't vote in primaries. Some of my 3Ds don't have current phone numbers. (Landlines replaced by cellphones etc) I need to knock on their doors to get their current numbers.

We also have a lot of people who don't vote in mid-terms. (They vote in the D primaries during presidential years) Gotta talk to them about the importance of mid-terms.

There is a lot to learn and lots of work to do!!!

Now that you're precinct chair, spend time in your precinct. Get to know the voters. If you can, help them with minor issues.

Next step, run for another office. And good luck to you.

It will be a difficult job getting everyone to act harmoniously and recruiting new voters, but I think that you're up to the challenge and will enjoy it.

However, you might keeo your eyes on the dog catcher prize. I hear that it comes with benefits!
