Texas House report denounces bathroom bill, says it poses threat to Amazon HQ2 bid
In a report released last week, the Texas House Select Committee on Economic Competitiveness condemned last sessions bathroom bill, saying it may hurt Austins bid to become Amazons second headquarters and may be dangerous to the future of the states economy.
Senate Bill 6 would have prohibited transgender individuals from using the bathrooms that align with their gender identity in public schools and other public accomodations.
Although it failed in last summers special session, the report said merely considering the bill had caused economic damage, citing $66 million worth of canceled convention business to Texas cities.
When policymakers even contemplate ideas that put business viability at risk, it injects uncertainty in the economy, the report said.
